Whats going on everyone. Nice to see some talk in here again.

So I am just curious how many applicants are showing up for new hire testing. I know that where I work, only about 40 paramedics showed up, and when we finally hired, some of them already had job offers at other departments. It seems that we are dredging the barrel. I want to get involved. I want to make fliers, make short DVDs, do what ever I have to and go to the PARAMEDIC AND FIRE ACADEMY'S and promote our department.

I do not blame these new guys for going to LA City LA County fire. They do need a lot of people and are financially stable for the most part. When you see they are hiring a FF/trainee, all they require is 18, GED, CPAT and Cal DL. When another place runs a FF/Trainee position with REQUIRED FF 1 Academy, EMT, CPAT.....what would you take. Running just a FF or FF/PM opening will get a lot more applicants in my opinion. If a guy wants to leave his department for what ever reason, I would think he is not looking for a trainee position.....

What does your department do to fly the job opportunity
(besides firecareers.com) How does your department run the add? Does your suppression know your running the add? Any information will help. I would like to see quality and quantity. Thanks for your help.

I noticed that a lot of departments use fire careers. But it seems like advertising for many places has been mostly word of mouth lately.
