View Full Version : Budgets and cost savings / staffing reductions??
I was curious how some of the local departments, So Cal and SB Co area, were handling the shortages? What are you guys looking at doing to save? How much are you short?
The only thing for sure that has happened at SBCo is a delay in the last hiring for our 40 person academy. There is a committee made up with labor and management to come up with solutions and ideas but nothing for sure yet.

Well everyone around here has been joking about the IOU notices we'll be getting. We'll have to see what trickle down happens from the the big boy decisions in Sacramento. The state is just about out of money. For us, there's no negotiating that.
C'mon LadderP. The whole IOU thing is just a joke. There is no way in hell that the federal government is going to let California run out of operational money. How can state services especially Pollice, Fire and Education go on without being funded. No state will operate that way EVER. Don't listen to all the negativity and hype.

There fixed it for ya:eek:
I remember getting an IOU from the state as a Firefighter II back in the 90's. It sucked! My bank took the IOU as if were a "real" check, but boy it was embarrisng when the teller said out loud, an IOU! Whats that...lol
Good luck ladderPiper, i feel your pain!
For the San Bernardino City Fire Department, our City Manager has recommended to the Council that we take a 10% reduction in Salary or Benefits and that we also eliminate 10 Firefighter positions.
Pink slips are supposed to be going out in the next week or so. Fortunately we currently have 8 vacancies.
Most members of our department are ready to make the sacrifices necessary to ensure none of our people walk. With that being said, I'm going to follow this post with a new thread and voting poll asking how many brothers out there would be willing to do the same in their organization.

on the brighter side, we still have a job that will pay us to support our families. unlike some folks who HAVE lost their jobs.
we don't have to like it, but we do have to deal with it.:mad::eek:
now if we could only convince those people who take company cars home to leave them inside city limits....it's only a few drops, but when the budget is dying of thirst, every drop counts.
