View Full Version : Scanners
Okay, so if I were looking for a scanner that is easy to use and easy to program, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg...what would be your product of choice and where would you purchase it. I am looking for something that will scan VHF, UHF, and 800.

Try radio shack. They have a lot of hand held VHF UHF combo compatible for cheap.
Programming gets tricky though depending on which brand you buy. Also try ebay.
Have fun scanning.:)
Thanks, for your response. I will check it out. Any info on trunking vs. dual trunking...maybe a website that would explain it...
Thanks.
I don't know why some guys love to scan when they are off duty?
I sure don't want to hear any annoying dispatchers when I am at home.
I was hoping to hear your voice, illdaddy. Let dispatch put out the call and then I like hearing the action on big incidents...just trying to keep abreast of any situations in my "scannable" area...at the same time, it is good to separate from the action once at home.
Hey Jude,
You would not hear my voice because I don't dispatch. I go and get into the action.
No disrespect to dispatchers, they gotta do their job. I was just saying that when I am off, I don't scan. I am sorry if anyone in here is a dispatcher and was offended by when I said they were "annoying".
Illdaddy, I wasn't assuming you were a dispatcher...even those working out on the incident have to use a radio...
So glad your avatar is working again...it cracks me up!

We will surely be hearing command channels go crazy this year. I heard today that there is a fire near chino. I was going to listen in on the web but coud not find anything. Anyone got any links to scan SoCal? The scanner links page on this website does not have anything that picks up Chino

jude23,
My personal choice are the Uniden Bearcat scanners. I have a BC785D which you can find on Ebay for around 150 bucks. It is easy to program with the right software and it will even clone from scanner to scanner. Most people buy the Radio Shack models because they are cheaper but I agree with Ladderpiper's post- they can be tricky to program. Good Luck!

I'm looking for an online scanner that covers Lassen Modoc County CDF. Does anyone know of one?

Though they are listed on there, one of the site administrators suggested they had to take them off because of static bleed-over from skipping by a southern ca unit. I haven't heard if they've been put back on, and I haven't heard any reference to them thus far when I've been listening.
