View Full Version : Uniforms
With the change of season upon us, I was just curious about department uniform policies. Out here in Vegas, we are blessed with the fact that we have summer uniforms and are allowed to wear shorts and polo shirts (4 more days!!). Now some may say that we look like security guards, but I don't care because I getta wear shorts!!! (NOMEX shorts to protect my junk, but shorts just the same). We put on our bunkers for critical MVA's and obviously fires, so there is no safety issue, but I am soooo grateful to our administration for realizing it is freakin' hot and shorts are a good thing for us.
Now my question to everybody else is, does any other department feel this way? I grew up in LA County and San Berdoo Co and worked in OC. It isn't too much cooler down there than here (105 vs 115...still freakin' hot!) And if you don't get to wear shorts, do you at least go down to t-shirts as opposed to class B's.
We get to wear shorts year around and I love it. I dont think that I have worn pants in about 4 years now. I wear shorts every day regardless of the temp. outside. Its good to hear that other departments allow shorts during the hot months. I know Havasu lets their people wear shorts too and I think they get to wear them year around, because in Jan. I stopped by one of their stations to get some t-shirts and they were all wearing shorts.

We allow shorts but I don't personally wear them.
I am not a big fan of the shorts. It still gets warm up here in the bay area, but I think that we look much more professional with pants and class B's.
I enjoy the T-shirts and pant look as casual wear in the eye of the public.
To each their own. As long as you get the job done and act professional.
I agree with Taylor Made. I personally do not think that the look of shorts and polo's are professional.
With that let me say I do wear them both when we the SOP says we can.
If they changed it back to class-Bs and pants 24/7 I think we would look more professional but hey like Taylor Made said, as long as we get the job done.

Yet you still wear the shorts......I will agree that Class B's do look better, but it is FREAKIN hot here!! Not bitchin 'bout it, just grateful we getta wear shorts!

Yes you are too bitchin.......And not in the 1980's cool way.
Where in the world is the weather for shorts? Last week we had a ton of our guys wearing shorts on duty, and this week we have on sweatshirts and are freezing our rears off!
How in the world is one supposed to get fired up for river season?

It rained today in Vegas, didn't get above 70 and I still was in my shorts!! Now if only my legs would start to tan.....I look like a freakin albino!! Gotta keep getting Tattoos to get some color!

Being able to wear shorts is a huge benefit. I have to agree with you guys that the class B's (with pants) does look more professional. But as discussed in the tatoo threads, looking professional only lasts as long as you act professional. a jerk in a 3 piece suit will be remembered as a jerk.
The best thing about shorts is they are just like pants, but shorter.
Yes you are too bitchin.......
I don't think he is bitching...I think he is gloating. Hey if shorts and polos work for you and you can do the job safely...then go for it! My only caveat is this: there are some people out there who should NOT be wearing shorts...and we all know who they are. It would be nice if those guys would work on the tan or work on the physique...or both.

I'm with Ash!! I was talking to him the other day about our shorts. And I don't think he was bitchin at all!! Besides, you wear 'em!! So don't go casting stones in a glass house!!
I would love to be able to wear shorts. We have to have our badge shirts on unless the temp hits above 90*..... Absolutely ridiculous!

I think all of the muscle-heads should be able to wear muscle shirts. That'd be freakin' hilarious. Especially if there were someone that THOUGHT they were all buffed out and wore it anyway. And instead of these baggy PT shorts, there are some old-timers that'd look damn funny working out on the elliptical and sporting some dolphin shorts.
Excuse me while I vomit...

I happen to like the term "Badge Shirts." I think I should submit that up the chain of command to have our Class B's called that!! LMAO:D:D:D

Just what they call them here? It’s even termed "Badge Shirt" in our SOP's.

Shouldn't that be SOP's? (HAHA)
Just make sure one doesn't make it a "badge HEAVY shirt". Like the guys that make sure the bugles are visible.

Your right fixed it. And they call SOP's here "Management Instructions"
